Since the publishing of the Book of Mormon and the restoration of the church, the term House of Israel has become part of our every day church vernacular. We use the term often, but if the truth be told, not many of us give the topic much more than a cursory thought. However, without question, the Lord’s fulfillment of His covenants with the House of Israel will impact the world at large to a greater degree than any other single event this side of the life of Christ. The world has largely ignored the restoration of the gospel. Apart from a flurry of activity and persecution that took place early on, the gathering of the House of Joseph has been a fairly quiet affair. Far less noteworthy than the restoration of Judah, which has had an incredible impact on world affairs, considering there are only as many Jews as there are members of the church. However, there will not be a soul on the planet capable of ignoring the restoration of the House of Israel.
As members of the church, we know that Israel is to be gathered before the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, yet most of us assume that this gathering will take place quietly through missionary work. If this is your understanding, you need to explore the meaning of the 10th Article of Faith.
We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes…
There is a significant difference between “gathering” and “restoring”. In the Bible Dictionary it states the following regarding the restoration of the Lost Ten Tribes of Israel.
The gathering of the lost tribes is to be a more spectacular event than the children of Israel coming out of Egypt in Moses’ day.
The miracles surrounding the Exodus of Egypt are greater in scope and wonder than any other series of miracles in the scriptures. They were witnessed and experienced by hundreds of thousands, if not tens of millions. Therefore, to state that the latter-day gathering of the lost tribes of Israel will be even more spectacular raises the bar on events that are already incomprehensible. In the book, A Remnant Shall Return, I explore these events in great detail, including close to seven hundred references and have concluded that these events are at our door. They will play out in our life time. They will be spectacular, and they will impact all of our lives in tremendous ways, but for the world and many members of the church alike, these events will come upon them as the thief in the night.
